Every day I touch the sun before it sets.
I sniff the rain and water in a very cold, deep, salty sea.
I taste sweet beginnings and bitter endings.
I wake to sleep, and I sleep to wake up.
I remember to dream, I dream to forget.
Every day I wake up and open my eyelids to be closer to everything that I miss and close them at night when I want to disappear again.
I dream to forget, I forget to remember.
Karolina Maciagowska, 1982, Poland is a fine art photographer and video/multimedia artist based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
She studied at the University of Sunderland (Photography, Video and Digital Imaging) and graduated in 2015.
She started as a commercial photographer on a freelance basis from 2009. During her studies she became interested in traditional darkroom and alternative printing processes, digital imaging, manipulation and video art, then she started exploring the genre of constructed image, also introducing the creative writing.
Her images seem simple but in fact they are carefully constructed records distinguished by observation and ongoing investigation of the world and surroundings - in her installations she links imagery based on the imagination and memories with photographs concentrated on a real objects or ordinary moments.
The editing within her grid installations is crucial to her work and the final results are never left up to chance - to evoke the viewer to find the extraordinary within the mundane and discover the visual poetry of photographic language.
